Knebworth Park

Knebworth House, Gardens & Park mean many things to many people. In the 21st century Knebworth Park is best known worldwide as Britain’s largest music venue, having hosted over 30 major concerts since 1974, including the record-breaking weekend in 2003 when 375,000 people were entertained by Robbie Williams.

Before rock concerts, Knebworth House was better known as the home of the Victorian novelist, playwright and politician, Edward Bulwer Lytton. If you visited Knebworth in the 19th century you might have been entertained by Charles Dickens performing in the beautiful Jacobean banqueting hall.

Music, literature and politics have featured throughout Knebworth’s history. Edward’s son, Robert, was both Viceroy of India and a popular romantic poet. Robert’s daughter, Constance, was a militant suffragette, playing an important part in winning the vote for women. Constance’s niece, Hermione, married Cameron Cobbold, who became Governor of the Bank of England and who was Lord Chamberlain during the 1960s.

Every generation of the Lytton family has woven threads in the extraordinary tapestry of history that is represented here at Knebworth. As the 19th generation of the Lytton family to live in the house, we invite you to join our extraordinary guest book that stretches all the way from Queen Elizabeth I to Queen Elizabeth II.

Whether this is your first visit or you’ve visited us many times before… Welcome to our home.
